"The Women"

On Sunday, October 19 2008 I went to the movies & saw The Women starring Meg Ryan, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Anette Bening, Debra Messing and Eva Mendes.

Mary Haines is a suburbian housewife who looks like she has it all... beautiful home, good friends and playing host to ladies' luncheons. When she sits down for a manicure one day, the talkative manicurist blabbers on about one of her friends who works at a perfume counter and is seeing a married man. Only to realize that she is talking about Mary's husband!

Mary's friends also get to know about her husband and his affair with "The Spritzer Girl" and as girlfriends do, become her support system. She takes her mother's advice and does not confront her cheating husband.

Anyways, the film spirals and explores topics relevant to women - shopping, fashion, face lifts, loyalty of friends, careers, motherhood etc...

The film really lives up to its name (The Women) because I actually don't remember seeing any men. They were only talked about, and their presence was only via telephone conversations (with husbands and bosses).

The film is a remake of a 1939 film of the same name. Apparently it took the director 14 years to make this film! Definitely 100% Chick Flick!

I saw that movie too, a while back. Thought it would be funny (Debra was in it!!) but it wasn't... Didn't like it at all.
